Concluded in Janakpur weddings four,
Of Sita’s glories to tell so many more.
On earthly realm from that moment just a start,
As back to Rama’s home in Ayodhya to depart.
Always dutiful by husband’s side,
As queen of devotees to preside.
This endeavor simply for mind’s sake,
Still so many more compositions to make.
If interest in famous personality have you,
Then left only with historians’ view.
Their envy and ignorance with them taking,
Erroneous judgments of others then making.
For Sita take expert eyewitness testimony,
From saints attending her marriage ceremony.
Of her beauty, grace and kindness they tell,
And so even a fool like me knows her as well.
Whatever qualities in me,
With that lens others I see.
Thus maybe not the ways of all,
For Janaki the most beloved to call.
But since when of others’ opinions to care?
Especially of those with knowledge not a hair.
Kind, sweet, intelligent and mild,
Is Janakpur’s most beloved child.
So much love for man I keep in my heart,
To spread it properly where do I start?
A real benefit to all to give,
Not just with more stuff to live.
Story of Sita’s wedding of gifts the best,
Makes joyous all future days the rest.
A story daily for the mind to act out,
Soon blessed company never to be without.
At holiday season filled with cheer,
Want to do good to people so dear.
Instinct for many presents a heap,
Give as gifts, into shopping to leap.
If last year’s goodness you want to surpass,
Then story of Sita and Rama to others do pass.
Message that God only the supreme hope and light,
This holiday and all others with wisdom to alight.
“Sita a goddess for Hindus only to see,
Hints at idolatry, certainly not for me.”
If these misgivings in you reside,
Without haste cast them aside.
Goddess of fortune to all ready to gift,
The means for devotion, spirits to uplift.
Her marriage to Rama for whole world to see,
Hear from saints and in happiness always be.
Though affair of importance tall,
To that event invited are you all.
Your religion or language no issue,
Neither wealth nor education too.
Just gaze with a pure heart and open mind,
And all good things from their image you’ll find.
All your doubts of the divine to run away,
When to Sita’s marriage you make your way.
That I am the most fortunate I say,
For theological debates missed my way.
Salvation, work, faith or something else still,
These thoughts my mind never to fill.
Straight of Sita and Rama was told,
So now affection for them I hold.
From scant attention so much fortune came,
So remember Sita and be blessed in way the same.
With strong faith in God instilled,
And days of so many good deeds filled.
So marriage to them appropriate gift,
Where Shri Rama Shankara’s bow to lift.
Belief and work both keep,
And reward even in this life reap.
Affection to beloved Sita give,
And honoring her forever live.
For Janaki’s friends the guru sent,
Then taking her they happily went.
All done in proper and tradition’s way,
Of not a single flaw any could say.
Of such an outcome who would believe,
Not even Brahma such a match could conceive.
Loving glances offered from all a well-wishing eye,
Thought each one of them, “How fortunate am I?”
