Tendency in man to cheat,

Seeks easy way for his neighbor to beat.

From this the caste system came,

By birth only to be passed the honorable’s fame.

Not the proper way do you know,

Honor in ascending path only to go.

At Sita’s beauty and famous marriage marveled,

Fame and honor to ancestors travelled.

In vanity of caste thought to descend,

But know properly that honor always to ascend.

Janaka already of stature the highest,

Increased by daughter of complexion brightest.

Beautiful, gentle and forever kind,

With a glance to capture even Hari’s mind.

In such a daughter in whom resplendence shines,

Gave most honor to famed Videha’s line.

From fear of mistake now free,

Janaka the outcome happy to see.

A victorious Rama spectators beheld,

As broken bow in hand He held.

At the most glorious and memorable sight,

Well-wishers pleased knowing outcome was right.

Fairest maiden for Shri Rama alone,

So happy, taking Janaki’s fortune as their own.

Arranged by Him, no other way,

Who in every heart does comfortably stay.

That prince of raincloud-like hue,

Innermost desires of father and daughter knew.

Janaki, who only the best in life deserved,

Most chivalrous and kind prince for her reserved.

The saints and pious pleased,

When Rama lifted bow with ease.

While to temple of Durga to pray,

Got vision of handsome groom along the way.

With a single glance to steal,

Supreme love in heart to feel.

Her longing not to deny,

Weight of bow Rama to defy.

Fissure in three worlds heard,

God having contest’s last word.

Of fool’s temptation resist,

And know God actually to exist.

To princess of qualities the best,

Gave marriage story to shame all the rest.

For daughter of King Janaka’s fame,

Proud princes from the world came.

Rama proven the most capable defender,

Janaki’s marriage one for ages to remember.

Love for Sita devotion means,

Like in what Janaka was seen.

Eternal consort of Hari after all,

Radha, Lakshmi or Sita to call.

Since affection for her in heart stayed,

The king most splendid contest made.

For Rama to come all parts were aligned,

Best husband for daughter the king to find.

Affection for Janaki always to keep,

Not for some selfish reward to reap.

In fact for Janaka nothing to do,

Transcendental wisdom well he knew.

Still of proper marriage plan he thought,

Through him Shri Rama to family brought.

Thus no matter how advanced to get,

Always in devotional acts be set.

As having consciousness with Brahman one,

Work for King Janaka there is none.

Krishna says a great man leads,

The example each follower sees.

Devotion to Janaki the lesson take,

For fruitful this existence to make.

By supreme love for daughter his own,

Best leadership to guide others was shown.

Greatest fortune in the world to belong,

To winner of contest, of princes most strong.

Just Shankara’s bow lift,

And Janaka’s daughter your gift.

A virtuous and beautiful lady to guide,

In righteousness over subjects to preside.

But only one man for Janaki is meant,

He who to the bow by Vishvamitra was sent.
