Simply Awesome

With arati lamps in every home,

Greatest welcome for Rama was shown.

Though wrong for others’ property to take,

As butter-thief, Krishna most pleasing sight to make.

Lord everywhere, even from a pillar once came,

Half-man/half-lion, of Narasimha the name.

In original form in joy spending the day,

Nothing to do, with friends on His flute to play.

Not Required For Bhakti

For into bhakti practice to go,

Just one thing needed to know.

That this material body I am not,

A spirit soul eternal engagement I have got.

With the Divine consciousness to live,

And endless service to Krishna to give.

Whether smart, renounced or tall,

The Lord any person with love can call.

Not A One-Sided View

Putting all options on the table,

To describe all rewards bhakti is able.

No reason for the teacher to hide,

Every route ready in disciple to confide.

Then decision made with confidence,

With knowledge to material life indifferent.

To supreme destination in afterlife to stay,

With holy names already on their way.

Adhokshaja

Trinavarta taking Krishna into air,

Of Lord’s true weight unaware.

Rakshasas 14,000 attacking,

Knowledge of Rama’s prowess lacking.

Expanding into infinite space and beyond to see,

As Supersoul Lord inside of both you and me.

Adhokshaja thus name for Him befitting,

Both short and tall, small and large in Him sitting.

Damodara

Taking mortar to which He was bound,

Placing in between trees, knocking to ground.

Two sons of Kuvera emerged,

Who from righteousness had diverged.

Offered prayers upon seeing,

Krishna, the Supreme Being.

In this way liberation to them came,

Devotion for Lord of Damodara name.

Blinded By Maya

From maya’s influence greatest shame,

That vision of attractive God not to gain.

So many other things not to see,

Like how others all equal to me.

Though living death eventually to come,

Experienced but keeping awareness none.

Through devotion nature of maya turn,

Into a benefit true enlightenment earn.

Following Parampara

Since with defects is the mind,

Bewilderment of true nature to find.

Into disciplic succession must tap,

To avoid maya’s perpetual trap.

From teachers many tested already,

So with confidence on path remain steady.

In Kali’s age sampradayas coming four,

Lotus feet of Lord each to adore.
